What you get.
The sponsor template is one sheet with two pictures of the same stretch, one under the other. On top, the cabinets and sizes: a pixel ruler along the edge, each cabinet join marked with its position, each cabinet labelled, and the area outside the safe zone hatched. Underneath, a mock-up at the same size, in the style of the boards we run ourselves, so the sponsor sees what a clean design on those cabinets looks like. Both carry their width and height. Each can also be saved on its own at the exact pixel size, for a designer who wants the guide as a layer under their artwork.
The wall map is the whole perimeter folded the way it is sent to its LED processor, drawn like the test pattern in USM Boarding: cabinet A1 at the top left, a colour for each row, every cabinet labelled A1, A2 and on to B1 with its number along the wall, and the sponsor’s content outlined in pink. It is what an installer checks the processor’s mapping against, and what the club and the sponsor point at when they talk about who goes where. A very large wall is scaled down to fit in one image, and the file name says so.
The spec is the paragraph a club usually writes by hand: the size, the formats, the frame rate and a note that the board has no transparency. Copy it into the email with the template attached. Why each of those matters.
The fold.
A perimeter is sent to its LED processor folded into rows, and the tool tells you how that works out for your wall: how many cabinets fit across one output, how many rows that makes, and how tall they stack. The wall map is saved in that layout. A designer never needs the fold: artwork is made as one straight strip, and the playout software cuts it at the seams. The fold, drawn.
Questions.
- What size should an LED perimeter board template be?
- The exact pixel size of the stretch the sponsor bought: the board’s height in pixels, and the number of cabinets times the width of one cabinet. Six cabinets of 192 x 144 pixels is 1152 x 144.
- What if I only know the length of the stretch in metres?
- Divide the length by the width of one cabinet in metres to get the number of cabinets, and enter that. With the pixel pitch filled in, the tool shows metres next to the pixels so you can check. The cabinet size in pixels still has to come from the club or its LED supplier.
- Can I set the content size in pixels instead of cabinets?
- Yes. Set Measure it in to Pixels and type the width and height, for example 1000 x 96. The template marks where the cabinet joins fall inside it, and the tool tells you how many times that content fits along the wall. Content of another height than the board is scaled to it on the wall, and the tool shows the size it plays at.
- What is the free grid option?
- Some walls are folded as one continuous strip that wraps at exactly the output width, so a cabinet can run from the end of one row into the next. Choose Continuous strip under How the wall is folded and the wall map is drawn that way, each cabinet labelled by the row it starts in.
- Is the template generator free?
- Yes. There is no account and no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your browser.
- Can I put my artwork into the tool?
- No. It draws grids and numbers only. Artwork goes to the club, and the club’s playout software places it on the wall.
- My wall uses a cabinet size that is not in the list.
- Choose Custom and enter the cabinet’s width and height in pixels. The tool accepts cabinets from 16 to 1,024 pixels on a side and walls of up to 500 cabinets.
