In development

The big screen, on the engine that already runs your perimeter.

USM Live is a second product for the other screens in the ground: the big screen, the centre-hung, the corner screens. One canvas, divided into regions, with layouts you cue live. It is in testing at our own venues and is not on sale yet.

What it is

A big screen is not a long thin one.

A perimeter run is one picture, wide and short, and the software’s problem is fitting artwork to it. A big screen is the opposite: one large rectangle that has to be several things at once. A camera feed with a score bug. A replay beside a sponsor panel. A full-screen goal graphic that takes the whole surface for six seconds and then gives most of it back.

USM Live treats that surface as a canvas divided into regions, and a layout as a named arrangement of those regions. Switching layout is a cue, the same verb the perimeter already uses, and the regions keep playing across the switch rather than restarting.

It runs on the same engine as USM Boarding, which is the reason it exists at all: the hard parts, playout timing, frame-accurate transitions, redundancy and the CasparCG work underneath, are already built and already run on match days.

Working today, in testing

What is already real.

Built and running on our own machines. Not yet through a full season on a customer rig, which is the bar before it goes on sale.

  • Regions on a canvas. A drag-and-snap editor: draw the areas of the screen, name them, save the arrangement as a layout.
  • Layouts cued live. One switch moves every region at once, in a single batch, so the screen changes shape without a black frame.
  • Live sources in a region. A camera, an NDI feed or a playlist inside any region, running while the layout around it changes.
  • The scoreboard follows the layout. Score, clock and names move with the region that holds them instead of being burned into one design.
  • Triggers. A cue, a stinger, a scoreboard change or a layout switch fired from outside, over the local API.
  • Two machines in step. The same peer rail as the perimeter product, so a pair of PCs fire together on a LAN.

Why this page exists now

Because you are probably deciding this year.

Venues buy big-screen software when the screen is installed, and that decision is made a year before anybody switches it on. If you are in that year, it is worth knowing that the company already running your perimeter is building for the big screen too, on the same engine, with the same support.

If you would rather wait until it is finished, say so and we will tell you when it is. If you would rather be one of the venues it is finished on, that is a conversation worth having now.
